Bi-fold doors are an investment, but how durable are they?
Let’s have a look at the elements which make them a good choice for your home, now and in the future.
Whether your bi-folding doors are being fitted as part of a new build project, or chosen to enhance the quality of an existing home, you want to be sure that you’ll be able to enjoy them, trouble-free, for many years to come.
A quality product
All of our bi-folding doors are built for security, reliability and longevity. We achieve this by using the best materials and skillfully manufacturing every door to the highest levels of craftsmanship. We take responsibility for every stage of the design and manufacture, and have absolute confidence in the quality of the end result.
British-made at our own world-class manufacturing operation
Every stage of manufacture takes place at our state-of-the-art manufacturing site in Leeds. Express Bifolds began over a decade ago as a family business and, right from the start, our focus was on high quality and craftsmanship. Whilst we may have increased in size since that time, now employing over 280 members of staff nationwide, our focus is still on that commitment to quality. By manufacturing our products in-house, we can guarantee the highest level of quality compliance: the products leaving our factory are made to a premium standard, ready to stand the test of time in adding value and enjoyment to your home.
Why aluminium?
Aluminium is our choice of material for bi-folding doors because it brings so many benefits. It’s strong, long-lasting, and doesn’t expand or contract with changes in weather. Its lifespan is almost double that of uPVC. It’s also virtually maintenance-free, which means you don’t have to be constantly on the lookout for issues in order to keep the doors in peak condition.
Our design process
The strength of aluminium in itself means that door frames can be made to larger sizes and with a much thinner profile than that offered by other materials. Our manufacturing process adds to this characteristic, each panel being injected with a solid-setting liquid component. This results in a lightweight and easy-to-use bi-folding door which is nevertheless exceptionally strong and reliable, promising many years of trouble-free enjoyment.
A tough finish
Our XP10 doors are powder-coated, the colour baked-on for a finish that doesn’t peel or fade. There’s no maintenance required, and it’s guaranteed for 10 years.
Glass you can rely on
The glass in your bi-folding door not only makes up a great deal of the door itself, but effectively forms part of your house wall. It’s important to get this right, so we use top quality, toughened glass as standard. This can be enhanced by the option of adding enhanced security, solar control or triple-glazing, but you can rest assured that every one of our doors is made to last, bringing you years of energy-efficient use.
The benefits of a bottom-running system
Top-track bi-fold doors hang from the top of the door frame, putting strain on the runners and relying on the strength of the supporting beam to hold the door up. Bottom-running, or bottom-hung, systems mean that the weight of the doors rests on the bottom track. This enhances the long-term performance of the doors by minimising any deflection of the runners. Our doors use stainless steel wheels and precision bearings for a folding operation that is smooth and trouble-free, and which minimises any stress to the frames. It’s important to make sure that the tracks stay free of debris, but this is the only maintenance our bi-folding doors require.
